Francesco Bagnaia has been with Ducati since he arrived in MotoGP, having made his way from the Pramac satellite team to the factory team where he has already achieved two titles in the premier class. Now, officially, the future is open, as his current contract ends at the end of the year – a situation that Ducati does not want to be long-lasting.
The general manager of Ducati Corse, Gigi Dall’Igna, assured the newspaper La Gazzetta dello Sport that his goal is to renew with Bagnaia before the start of the season in March… being aware that the matter is not simple: ‘Will he renew before Qatar? That is the goal, although a two-year contract for a two-time world champion is always complicated.’
In theory, Bagnaia has no reason to leave Ducati: he is on the most competitive bike of the present time and money should not be a problem. However, other manufacturers also have potentially vacant spots and it may be the case that the Italian wants a new challenge. It wouldn’t be unique for a rider to leave a winning manufacturer to try to replicate their successes with another team, as Valentino Rossi did, for example, when he switched from Honda to Yamaha in 2004.
