With the new concession system, and after last year’s dominance, Ducati is now the most limited constructor in the development of its MotoGP bike. Throughout the year, testing opportunities will be scarce, there will be no wildcards, and it will not be allowed to have more than one engine and aerodynamic specification.
This situation creates extra difficulties for Ducati in the upcoming season: ‘It is certainly difficult because of the rules as well. At the end of last year, the rules changed, and now we are the only ones without concessions. Everyone else can develop their bikes much more during the season, we cannot,’ said Ducati Corse’s general manager, Gigi Dall’Igna, to the MotoGP website.
In this context, the engineer emphasized that Ducati will have to make more progress before the start of the season and cannot afford to make mistakes in the development of the Desmosedici GP24: ‘We need to take a bigger step at the beginning of the season to be competitive throughout the season. And the Japanese manufacturers can take more risks than us because they can change the engine, they can change the fairing during the season, so if they have some problems, they can react and solve the problems. And we cannot. So, it won’t be easy.’
