Penalties for infractions related to minimum tire pressure in MotoGP in 2024 are now known. The values only need to be respected during races (Sprint and main), and may vary from circuit to circuit depending on each one’s specific requirements. The reading continues to be based on the average pressure of all laps.
The rules now announced by MotoGP and tire supplier Michelin have been developed in collaboration with manufacturers. Riders must comply with the minimum tire pressure in at least 60 percent of the laps in a race over 15 laps (30 percent in the case of Sprint races). Flag-to-flag races and rain tires are not covered.
And the penalties? They will be significant, but do not involve disqualification of the offending rider as was speculated. Infractions in Sprint races are penalized with eight seconds of added time, while in main races this penalty is 16 seconds.
