On one hand, not everything went well within Yamaha during the tests in Misano, but on the other hand, there seem to have been positive points, at least for Franco Morbidelli.
The Italian explained the aspects he worked on and how he took advantage of the work done, even considering using some things in the current season: ‘We tried new things: new aerodynamics, a new chassis, and different tires, a test for Yamaha and another for Michelin. Honestly, I liked the new aerodynamics and the new chassis, so I will continue the season with the current package. There are little things I didn’t like, it changes the braking a bit and other things. Nothing changes the aggressive character of the bike’.
However, regarding the new engine from the Japanese manufacturer, Morbidelli – who will leave the team at the end of the year – did not have the opportunity to test it: ‘As for the engine, we have to ask Fabio, only he tested it. I saw it, but we need to talk to someone else’.
Álex Rins, currently at LCR Honda, will be the new rider for Yamaha starting in 2024, specifically taking over Morbidelli’s place.
