In the first lap of the Portuguese MotoGP Grand Prix, Franco Morbidelli had a collision with Joan Mir – coming out worse from the incident as he fell and fell behind irreparably despite being able to continue in the race.
The Repsol Honda Spaniard was asked if the Prima Pramac rival should have been penalized. In response, Mir stated: ‘Yes. Well, he fell, so he was penalized. If not, yes, but if he fell… He doesn’t want to fall, so this was the penalty he received‘.
Mir finished the race in 12th position, despite the many damages to his motorcycle. As for Morbidelli, he crossed the finish line alone in 18th place, more than 52 seconds behind the winner and roughly 12 seconds behind the rival immediately ahead.
