Francesco Bagnaia was the fastest in the MotoGP Italian GP practice session, but there was a setback for the Ducati rider – whose best time was 1m44.938s.
Shortly before setting that lap time, the Italian had an incident on track with Álex Márquez (Gresini/Ducati) at Correntaio. Bagnaia arrived at the corner at a slow pace in front of his rival, and even though he opened up the racing line to let him pass, he still ended up hindering his flying lap.
In fact, Márquez felt aggrieved and gestured visibly with his hands to show his displeasure with Bagnaia. The situation is being investigated and the two-time MotoGP world champion could even be penalized for irresponsible riding if the stewards see fit.
However, Bagnaia defended that he did nothing wrong and accused Márquez of overreacting: ‘It’s, as always. First of all, I didn’t have blue flags, and then I was off the racing line, I braked further ahead to be off and as always he is a good actor, so he made this kind of move with the bike as always‘.
