Anthony Gobert stood out in motorcycle racing during the 1990s, winning several races in the Superbike World Championship and even competing in the 500cc. Now, at only 48 years old, he is in end-of-life care, receiving palliative care.
His brother, Aaron, wrote on social media: ‘It is with sadness that we have to announce that Anthony is currently hospitalized in palliative care and is in the final stage of his life after a brief illness. Please know that we will provide any updates available at the appropriate time‘.
In his career, Gobert was the Australian Superbike and Supercross champion, and also had 11 victories in the Superbike World Championship where he finished fourth in 1995. Between 1997 and 2000, he made several appearances in MotoGP and was a regular presence in the top ten. He was an official Suzuki rider in 1997, but was fired after failing a drug test.
