This week the new MotoGP regulations for 2027 were announced, which presuppose a decrease in the performance of the bikes in favor of safety and entertainment in the races. However, with this, FIM will not risk diluting the performance difference between the premier class and the MotoGP.
The guarantee was given by president Jorge Viegas in a press conference, as there will also be new rules for WSBK: ‘It is obvious that we want to have MotoGP at the top and Superbikes were supposed to be production bikes with some changes, and we also started working two years ago on changing the regulations in Superbikes. Some things will happen very soon, but in a way to maintain a distance between MotoGP and Superbikes obviously‘.
The leader then said: ‘We are talking to all manufacturers – you know we have even more manufacturers in Superbikes than in MotoGP. But it is also a great job to be done and a consensual solution‘.
According to Viegas, the British Superbike Championship (BSB) is being used as a laboratory for the new rules, which should be defined by 2026: ‘We are also working on the new generation for the former Supersport 300 and we are using the British championship as a test to see how these new rules apply, but I hope that by 2026 the new generation will be active and defined‘.
