This morning, the free practice session of the Italian Moto2 GP took place in Mugello. Fermín Aldeguer was the fastest, thanks to a series of quick laps about five minutes before the end.
After the first flying laps, Alonso López (MB Conveyors SpeedUp/Boscoscuro) was leading, but the times improved significantly in these initial minutes and the lead constantly changed.
Tony Arbolino (Elf Marc VDS/Kalex), Darryn Binder (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP/Kalex), wildcard Mattia Pasini (Team Ciatti Boscoscuro), and Manuel González all passed through there. It was the Spanish rider from QJMotor Gresini who managed to secure the first place, which he held for almost 20 minutes until being beaten by Arbolino.
The Italian was quickly overtaken by Somkiat Chantra (Idemitsu Honda Team Asia/Kalex). And, about three minutes later, Aldeguer took the lead. He improved on his next lap to set the session’s benchmark time: 1m51.311s.
Chantra remained in second, just 0.069s behind, with Arbolino in third. CFMoto Inde Aspar closed the top five with Jake Dixon in fourth and Izan Guevara in fifth. Sergio García (MT Helmets-MSi/Boscoscuro), the championship leader, was only 17th, 1.178s off the top… and just ahead of Pasini.
