Veronese traveler Luca Falcon lost his life in a road accident in Angola. According to initial reconstructions, it seems that he was unable to avoid the collision with a truck coming in the opposite direction, which probably attempted to overtake without realizing the presence of the motorcycle. The news spread around the world, in the community of “world travelers”, shocked by what we never want to hear: the loss of a friend with a big heart. Travel companions immediately contacted each other to notify his family, but for Luca there was nothing more they could do, the impact was fatal.
Luca was loved for his joy and contagious vitality. Gifts that had allowed him, together with his wife Giulia, not only to start traveling the world again after a very serious accident, but also to found the solidarity project Karma On The Road, with which they take prostheses to African countries like Angola to be reused and with which they allow others who have had the same fate as him to walk again. In 2016, he had a very serious accident when he was returning from work on his motorcycle and was hit by a car. That accident completely changed his perspective on life. Stuck in bed for a year, his dream of riding a motorcycle again seemed to have been completely destroyed when, after forty operations and two years of rehabilitation, doctors had to amputate his left leg in 2019. Many would have given up, but not Luca. The search for the right prosthesis and the rehabilitation process to rise again and finally ride a motorcycle made him discover a world he had never known and reignited a flame that had never been extinguished. Back on a motorcycle after huge efforts, he realizes how many people in the world have had similar problems to his but do not have the opportunity to have a prosthesis. Therefore, Luca and Giulia decided to collaborate with Legs4Africa, a British non-profit organization that recovers prosthetic limbs from many countries in Europe and around the world. Luca and Giulia thus founded the Karma On The Road association, through which they collect prostheses in Italy and, thanks to the distribution network of Legs4Africa, can send them to various rehabilitation centers in Sub-Saharan Africa. A dark continent they continue to visit by motorcycle: with their Africa Twin, the Karma On The Road couple often travel the southern route, precisely to document their activities and show how, with determination, courage, and willpower, it is possible to overcome the most difficult obstacles.
One ingredient that is always present is irony: Luca used to joke about everything and especially about his artificial limb, never holding back on the jokes, whether it was a video on Instagram or a live interview. It was his way of making diversity normal and he did it brilliantly. His joy allowed him to face even the most difficult moments of the journey, just as he was doing on this last African crossing. In the last few days, he talked about the difficulties he was experiencing and the symptoms of malaria. He never fails to minimize it and to show the fascination of nature or the beauty of traveling through these wild lands.
The entire journalistic team sends their condolences to his family.
