Yamaha wants to have a satellite team in MotoGP in 2025 and ensures that negotiations for this to happen are advanced. It is not known which team could be this satellite team, but there are rumors pointing to Pramac or Gresini.
Fabio Quartararo, who recently renewed with Monster Energy Yamaha until 2026, emphasized that having another team is very important, firstly because of the accumulated kilometers and the diversity of comments about the bike:
– It is really important. Yamaha is working hard to have a satellite team and I think it is very important, especially when you see how many laps we can do in the pre-season. If you check the number of laps we did comparing with Ducati, it is completely different and you can test several things, but you also have comments from many more riders. So, this is something really important.
The French rider wants, more than a satellite team, a team that is as close as possible to the official team: ‘I think having… I don’t even say satellite team, for me it has to be an extension of the factory team. They have to have factory bikes, factory support, and I think it is also important for the riders. In the end, who you have next to you on the same bike is your first rival. But if you have three more, it gives you even more motivation and you can learn even more from others‘.
The last time Yamaha had a satellite team in MotoGP was the former RNF until the end of 2022, but it ended up taking a new direction with Aprilia – just as in 2019 Tech3 had done with KTM after a long partnership with the manufacturer from Iwata.
