The choice of tires for races is one of the main aspects of MotoGP currently, especially at a time when motorcycles are faster, as well as the demand for rubber from the bikes, and this is something that Fabio Quartararo paid particular attention to in Portugal. For the Frenchman, the team’s potential should be greater than it is at the moment.
In statements to the French channel Canal+, Quartararo addressed the issue of tire choice, as for the Sprint race he had to choose the medium tire, unlike most riders: ‘Honestly, even for the Sprint, my choice was the medium because the tire wear was huge, even for the Sprint, and that’s why I simply chose this tire, but the mistake we made on Saturday was not putting the hard tire in front. But, other than that, it was the right choice’.
Looking at the current state of Yamaha and the competitiveness among the grid, remember that #20, former world champion, expressed concern: ‘I don’t believe our potential is as great as we think, because the race ended with a 20-second delay compared to the winner’.
Quartararo has won the GP of Portugal twice and this Sunday finished seventh, while Álex Rins, the other (only) Yamaha rider, finished 13th, in what was his second round with the Monster Energy Yamaha MotoGP Team.
With 15 points collected so far, Quartararo is 11th in the standings.
