Monster Energy Yamaha has been making radical changes for a few months now in order to return to the top spots in MotoGP. There are new members in the technical team and a different way of working, seeking to capitalize on the concessions.
Rider Fabio Quartararo explained that, in terms of solutions for the bike, he prioritizes quality over quantity, revealing the optimism about the aerodynamics that is about to be introduced:
– I think quantity is not the most important. Quality is better than quantity, and I think the quality of the aerodynamics that is coming… I don’t know if it’s in Jerez, Le Mans, Mugello or Barcelona, something like that, they are very optimistic. Because from 2019 until this year we have been basically riding with the same aerodynamics. This year is the first time we are competing with a different aerodynamic style.
According to the French rider, Yamaha is going through a learning period: ‘Basically, we are learning. Since January we have been taking some big steps, but from January to April it’s only three months, so you can’t completely change the bike and mentality in just three months. But we are very optimistic‘.
In March, Yamaha had to give up a private test in Portimão due to bad weather, and Quartararo emphasized that the upcoming tests will be very busy: ‘Unfortunately we couldn’t test anything, but of course the plan was very busy. Now in Jerez it will be even busier, then two days in Mugello. So, we will accumulate many test days and many things to test. There are several things coming and I think step by step we will improve‘.
