‘Fabio Quartararo is riding in a spetacular way and manages to make up for certain limits’ – Andrea Dovizioso

Andrea Dovizioso returned to the MotoGP paddock during last weekend’s Spanish GP – witnessing an unexpected performance from Yamaha with Fabio Quartararo.

The Frenchman took pole position and finished second in the main race, standing up to the Ducatis – something few expected, given the current limited competitiveness of the YZR-M1.

In an interview with Sky Sport, Dovizioso analysed Quartararo’s performance in Jerez: ‘At the moment, Fabio is riding the bike in a spectacular way, because he manages to make up for certain limits of the bike that are hard to see from the outside. He is really making the difference’.

According to the Italian, the 2021 world champion has two major weapons: ‘Braking and cornering. So, he doesn’t rely as much on acceleration, which still isn’t ideal. That’s why Fabio has to use a lot more of the track on the exit as well. It’s probably not ideal, but it allows him to be fast’.

On the other hand, Dovizioso believes Quartararo also managed to handle tyre drop well, which had been a concern.
