Fabio Quartararo has voiced his dissatisfaction with Andrea Dovizioso’s current role within the Yamaha structure. The French rider believes that the Japanese manufacturer is not making proper use of the veteran Italian’s technical insight and experience since his return as a test and development consultant in 2024.

‘Dovizioso should go more deeply into the technical side,’ Quartararo stated after post-race testing in Aragon. Though Dovizioso’s appearances have been sporadic at Grand Prix weekends, the 2021 world champion insists that his presence adds valuable input to the factory team.

Yamaha unleashes new V4 beast at Brno, but can it dethrone the mighty M1 on track?

‘When the races are in Europe, if he can come, it is a help,’ he noted. Despite acknowledging Dovizioso’s impact, Quartararo underlined Yamaha’s failure to fully tap into his expertise: ‘We aren’t using him enough.’

His criticism went further, suggesting the team should shift its approach to involving former riders: ‘The team must give him the possibility to go more deeply into the technical side.’ For Quartararo, Dovizioso’s experience is crucial to bridging the gap between engineers and riders.

This evaluation raises broader questions about how manufacturers integrate ex-racers into technical roles. At a time when Yamaha is seeking to return to podium contention, a voice like Dovizioso’s could be a game-changer — if properly included.
