When everything seemed lost to continue in MotoGP, Fabio Di Giannantonio saw a door open for 2024: that of the VR46 Racing Team, following Luca Marini’s departure to Repsol Honda. The victory in the Qatar GP is seen as a fundamental aspect in securing the spot, but team director Uccio Salucci denied that it was the sole reason.
First of all, the manager emphasized to Motorsport.com that #49 was already competitive long before signing the contract: ‘It is not certain that he was only strong before or after signing. He has been strong for two months.’
Regarding the decision-making process, Salucci explained: ‘I analyze things, race by race, turn by turn, and he literally changed gears. I also spoke with [Gigi] Dall’Igna about this to understand the technical motivation and he told me that it is never just one motivation. There are always three or four aspects that change the situation. So, he installed a working shock absorber, an acceleration mapping that he was missing. He gave him motivation.’
