Fabio Di Giannantonio was far from his best at the MotoGP French GP, but still managed a double top ten – despite starting from 17th. As a result, he now sits fifth in the championship.

Like several other riders, the Pertamina Enduro VR46 man found himself caught in tyre uncertainty during the race due to the conditions, as he explained:

– It was a crazy race. Honestly, I’m still trying to understand what happened, because it was really crazy! We tried to go with slicks, but then it was clearly wet in the first part of the race. We did the start, we were there, I saw some crashes in front, so I lost quite a lot of time. And when everyone stooped I didn’t realise that they had stopped because I was too far from them. So, I did one more lap.

Despite climbing from 17th on the grid to eighth, Di Giannantonio was left with the feeling that he missed out on a potentially better result: ‘I think that it was my mistake not to achieve the top five – to lose that lap to change the tyres again to wet tyres. Then, in the wet, I struggled at the beggining – I didn’t find any grip at the rear. But then, step by step, everything was picking up temperature and it was better and better’.

That said, the #49 rider left Le Mans satisfied given the circumstances: ‘Let’s say I’m super happy with the result this time because of how the weekend was. Going home with a P7 and a P8 starting from P17 is really good, I think. We also recovered some points to the guys ahead in the championship. So, we have to take the positives and go to Silverstone with our base setup, which seems we have finally found it’.
