Since 2022 there has been a minimum age for a rider to be able to compete in the Moto2 and Moto3 World Championships, a measure aimed at safety after several accidents in the lower categories. However, exceptions were also created that will be extended to 2024.
The Grand Prix Commission has decided that the top three finishers in the FIM JuniorGP World Championship and the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup can compete in the Moto3 World Championship as soon as they have mathematically secured their final position – with the minimum age being 17 years old.
As for Moto2, the European champion of the category can move up to the World Championship the following year if they have turned 17 years old. For 2024, this exception does not apply, as Senna Agius was the European Moto2 champion and already meets the general minimum age requirement to enter the world championships – 18 years old. On the other hand, those who competed in the Moto2 or Moto3 World Championships at 16 or 17 years old this season will be able to continue competing in 2024.
