Álex Márquez was in the spotlight during the Sepang tests, confirming it this Friday with the best time of the week. He lapped in 1m56.493s, beating Francesco Bagnaia (Ducati) by only seven thousandths.
The Spaniard from Gresini is, naturally, satisfied – not only because of the lap time he set: ‘It was a really positive third day. The first two were really good, but the third was even better. Overall, we did a really great job. Besides one lap – which is always important because if you are able to make a time attack and to be there, it seems the bike is responding to you when you are demanding and asking for more – especially with the pace that we had. The Sprint simulation was super good as well’.
Despite the good performance, Márquez keeps his feet on the ground: ‘Everything looks nice, but it’s Sepang. I love this track, and I’ve always been fast here. So, I keep calm, and we need to go to Thailand and see how we are there’.
Having said that, #73 commented: ‘We were fast also in Montmeló, we were consistent here. Thailand is not a track where I normally struggle a lot. I also like it. Let’s see how we are there and how fast the factory puts everything together’.
