The season of Enea Bastianini was nothing short of… atypical. In the year that the Italian debuted for the factory Ducati team, injuries marked his year early on. With the next year getting closer and closer, 2024 could be decisive in #23’s aspirations, especially regarding the maintenance of his place in the team against the “threat” Jorge Martín.
The year started in Portugal with an injury that kept him out for several weeks, but upon returning at 100%, the rider showed a glimpse of what led Ducati to promote him to the main team, with Martín as his main competitor in that aspect for the 2022 season.
He would eventually come out on top, but the 2023 season had the Pramac Racing rider fighting for the title until the last race of the year, which raised the question again of who will be in the main Ducati team in 2025.
The upcoming season therefore has more reasons of interest in this recurring battle: Bastianini vs Martín.
What is certain is that Bastianini is secure until the end of 2024, and Carlos Pernat, the Italian’s manager, has already guaranteed that after an “extremely difficult” season, the Bestia will be at his best and eager to show his worth, even aiming to launch a title bid.
Martín, on the other hand, has shown that despite being in a satellite team with strong support from Ducati, he should not be overlooked in the title fight. The ingredients add up and Pecco Bagnaia may have one of his biggest rivals in his teammate, along with Martín, both launching a new attack for a place in the factory team for 2025.
