Enea Bastianini had a very complicated season in the MotoGP World Championship in 2023. Right at the Portugal GP, he suffered complex injuries that kept him out for several months.
The end of the season was considerably more positive, including a victory at the Malaysian GP – which shows that, despite the turbulent period, the Ducati rider still has the capabilities to fight at the top.
In an interview with Sky Italia MotoGP, Bastianini talked about the two crucial moments for him in 2023 – one of which was particularly challenging on a psychological level:
– There were two critical moments. The recovery from the shoulder injury worried me a lot. I was not able to regain strength, sometimes my arm would go numb on the bike and this had never happened to me before. Things improved since Barcelona, but I had a setback. I was in a wheelchair for 20 days, I was very angry, I didn’t want to talk to anyone, I didn’t want to do anything. I hit rock bottom, but from there everything was easier and it was good to be myself again.
