Enea Bastianini had a tough season in MotoGP when he joined Ducati. A right shoulder injury suffered in the Sprint race of the Portuguese GP left him absent from the tracks and training for several months, which naturally reflected in his performance when he returned.
When he was back in action, he had to regain confidence and physical fitness, and was still affected by another physical problem suffered in the Catalan GP. Then, the Italian ended the season on a high note – even achieving a victory in the Malaysian GP.
Carlo Pernat told GPOne.com that Bastianini cannot be judged after the circumstances of the season, but considers that he ended up showing a positive note:
– Despite me being biased, I say that he cannot be judged. He missed nine Grand Prix races, virtually half the season. The fractured shoulder blade was more serious than we said, he couldn’t train for a long time and lost physical fitness and confidence with the bike. If I had to evaluate him based on the last three races, I would give him a positive, but that is not possible if you look at the whole year.
