Emma Raducanu Secures Wildcard for Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships Amid Struggles

Despite a four-match losing streak, Emma Raducanu has received a main draw wildcard for the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships, offering her another opportunity to turn things around in the Middle East swing.

The 2021 US Open champion has struggled to regain top form after injury setbacks and coaching changes, but tournament organizers remain confident in her star power and potential, setting the stage for her Dubai debut.

Raducanu’s Rocky Start to 2025

The 22-year-old Brit had a promising start to the season, winning back-to-back matches before being dismantled 1-6, 0-6 by Iga Swiatek in the Australian Open third round. Since then, she has suffered first-round exits in Singapore, Abu Dhabi, and Doha.

Her latest defeat came in Doha, where Ekaterina Alexandrova edged her out 6-3, 7-5. With four consecutive losses, Raducanu will need to find her rhythm quickly in Dubai, where she’ll face an elite WTA 1000 field.

A New Coaching Dynamic?

Following her split with coach Nick Cavaday after the Australian Open, Raducanu is set to work with Jane O’Donoghue, a former Lawn Tennis Association (LTA) coach who has mentored her for years.

While O’Donoghue won’t be a full-time replacement, Raducanu is using this period to evaluate her coaching needs before making a permanent decision:

“I haven’t jumped into something straight away because I want to make sure it’s the right fit.”

The former World No. 10 is taking a measured approach to her coaching situation, focusing on stability and long-term progress rather than a quick fix.

Can Raducanu Make a Comeback in Dubai?

Raducanu’s wildcard entry presents a crucial opportunity to snap her losing streak and gain confidence heading into the Sunshine Double in Indian Wells and Miami.

While her current form raises questions, the fast conditions in Dubai could play to her strengths—if she can regain her sharp baseline game and aggressive shot-making.

The Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships will feature a stacked field, including reigning Australian Open champion Aryna Sabalenka and World No. 1 Iga Swiatek, meaning Raducanu will need to bring her best tennis to compete at the highest level.

Final Thoughts

Emma Raducanu has shown flashes of brilliance, but inconsistency and injuries have prevented her from maintaining momentum. The Dubai wildcard gives her a chance to reset, rebuild, and prove she still belongs among the WTA’s best.

With the right mindset and support team, can Raducanu reverse her fortunes and rediscover the form that made her a Grand Slam champion? Dubai will provide some early answers.
