Ducati currently has Enea Bastianini and two-time champion Francesco Bagnaia in its factory team in MotoGP. There is no shortage of contenders for potential openings, starting with Jorge Martín, who was this year’s runner-up in the Pramac satellite team.
However, there is now another candidate – perhaps surprisingly – to join Borgo Panigale in 2025. None other than Marc Márquez, who will compete for the Gresini satellite team next year.
Bagnaia and Bastianini’s current contracts end in late 2024, and after that, everything is up in the air. Bastianini in particular has to prove he deserves his place, after a 2023 season heavily affected by injuries.
Now, Márquez will enter the Ducati sphere through Gresini. And Paolo Ciabatti, the team’s sporting director, assured Motorsport.com that the Spaniard will be one of the options on the table to move up to the factory Ducati team in 2025:
– As we have not yet defined the pilots for 2025, I would say without any problems that Marc will be one of the candidates for the official team. We are no longer in the pre-Covid-19 era, where a pilot like him can earn super millionaire salaries.
