Since last year’s British GP, tire pressure in MotoGP has to respect a minimum limit for 60 percent of the race, with stronger penalties for the 2024 season – eight seconds in Sprint races and 16 seconds in main races.
Therefore, it is another aspect to manage in order to avoid penalties – and keeping tire pressures under control is a considerable challenge, as it depends on various factors such as weather, weight, and race context: whether a rider is riding alone or in a group, attacking or managing, for example.
And in this aspect, Ducati was once again a pioneer. According to the website Motosan.es, the Borgo Panigale manufacturer introduced a counter where the rider can see how many laps they have respected or not respected the minimum pressure. It is an important aid for the rider to know the risks they are taking, being able to determine if they need to adopt a more or less conservative approach.
