Diogo Moreira has just secured his first Moto2 pole position, with the Aragón circuit witnessing the Brazilian rider as the fastest in intermediate class qualifying, thanks to a late attack.

Alonso López, Izán Guevara, Tony Arbolino, and Filip Salac were the fastest in Q1 and have secured a spot in Q2 of the intermediate class, where they will compete for a place in the final qualifying session.

Manu González was among the favourites, but the Spaniard soon experienced the opposite—and in the worst way—crashing just three minutes into the session, though fortunately without serious consequences.

López and Salac then took the top spots on the timing sheets before Deniz Öncü, one of yesterday’s standout riders, climbed to the lead.

López responded by reclaiming the top position, but Diogo Moreira and Arón Canet attacked and dethroned #21. Canet set a lap of 1:50.220s and soon after ran off track, but without any major issues, keeping control of his bike.

After the usual pit stop, the riders returned to the track, and the final attacks on pole position were expected.

Öncü did not hold back in the closing minutes, setting a lap of 1:50.166s, leaving Canet 0.054s behind. However, Diogo Moreira had something up his sleeve and managed to beat his rival, securing his first pole position in the category.
