David Alonso achieved his second consecutive pole position, this time at the Moto3 Spanish Grand Prix. The Colombian once again showed that he is the strongest at Jerez this weekend, with the best time in qualifying.
The initial leader of the session was David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports/KTM), with a 0.143s advantage over Alonso. The CFMoto Gaviota Aspar rider dominated the practices and was one of the strongest candidates for pole position.
And with his second flying lap, Alonso reached the lead in a clear way: Collin Veijer (Liqui Moly Husqvarna Intact GP) improved to second place, but 0.467s behind.
The Dutchman did better on his next attempt and took the lead, surpassing Alonso by 0.197s. However, there were still about six minutes left and anything could happen.
In the final minute of the session, Alonso crushed the clock again, lapping in 1m44.954s and leaving Veijer more than a second behind. Muñoz got closer, but finished second 0.220s behind, relegating Veijer to third.
Joel Kelso (BOE Motorsports/KTM) was fourth and will therefore share the second row with Ryusei Yamahaka (MT Helmets-MSi/KTM) and Ángel Piqueras (Leopard Racing/Honda).
