David Alonso once again achieved a full sweep in the practice sessions at the Moto3 Spanish GP. This morning, with rain in Jerez, the CFMoto Gaviota Aspar rider was again the fastest.
Due to the track conditions, this session ended up not counting towards determining the qualifiers directly for the second phase of qualifying. Throughout the half hour, lap times were constantly dropping, with several riders taking turns at the top.
The rider who spent the most consecutive time in first place was David Muñoz (BOE Motorsports/KTM) in the first ten minutes. However, it was Alonso who set the fastest time on his last lap, clocking in at 1m56.619s.
It was the culmination of a sequence of three quick laps from the Colombian, who beat his teammate Joel Esteban by 0.096s. Ángel Piqueras (Leopard Racing/Honda) was third, followed by his teammate Adrián Fernández. Matteo Bertelle (Rivacold Snipers Team/Honda) rounded out the top five.
In the combined times of the two sessions, Scott Ogden (MLav Racing/Honda) was 14th and secured the last direct spot in Q2. Bertelle, in 15th, missed out by just 0.029s.
