Danilo Petrucci suffered serious injuries last week, due to a crash while training in motocross. The World Superbike rider has already left the hospital, where he underwent surgery for fractures in the jaw, clavicle, and scapula. Now follows a long recovery period, but he hopes to be able to return at the Misano round in June.
The Italian started by saying: ‘I’m better, I’m out of the hospital. I’m almost fine. As you can see, the jaw suffered a major impact, I broke it in several parts, as well as the clavicle and scapula. Unfortunately, I also cut a nerve in the jaw‘.
After a serious accident, Petrucci confessed that he feared the worst, and thanked the doctors: ‘I’m very happy to be here, because first of all I’m alive. At one point, when I was falling, I didn’t believe I could tell this. So, I am very grateful to the doctors at the Torreta de Ancona hospital, where I have been these days. Doctor De Feudis, who urgently operated on my jaw, put plates and screws in, did this masterpiece. I was really in bad shape. Doctor Balercia, head of maxillofacial, and Doctor Pascarella who operated on my clavicle yesterday morning and put another plate in. In addition to two plates and 20 screws in my hand, they put three more plates in me. It’s a bit difficult, but I’m happy to be back home‘.
Petrux is aware that the recovery will be slow, but pointed out a possible return date: ‘I am happy to be back home. It will take some time, but I believe we will see each other in Misano. I think I will be able to be there. I cannot eat, so maybe for the first time in my life I will lose weight, because I can only have liquids. Therefore it will be difficult, but as I said I am very happy to be talking to you all here. I truly thank everyone, everyone who wrote to me, thank you again‘.
