The fight went down to the wire in the first race of the World Supersport 300 Championship in Assen. Daniel Mogeda claimed victory in a race full of emotions, where the unpredictable weather conditions made the task difficult and the outcome uncertain.
Jeffrey Buis (Freudenberg KTM-Paligo Racing), competing at home, made a good start from tenth to lead at the end of the first lap. However, he crashed on the third lap and collected José Julio García (Kove). The incidents in the early laps eventually led to a red flag. Buis was examined and declared unfit due to a concussion, and was taken to a hospital.
On the restart, Loris Veneman (MTM Kawasaki) started from first for another five laps, and led until being overtaken by Mogeda (Team#109 Retro Traffic Kawasaki) on the second lap. But the Spaniard was far from securing the victory.
A group of 16 riders were in the battle for the lead. Galang Hendra Pratama (ProGP NitiRacing) was leading at the start of the final lap… which ended with the overtaking for the win.
It was in the final corner that Mogeda made the decisive move that earned him the victory, and then crossed the finish line 0.083s ahead of Unai Calatayud (ARco Sash MotoR University Team/Yamaha). The podium was completed by Iñigo Iglesias (Fusport-RT Motorsports by SKM-Kawasaki), ahead of his teammate Petr Svoboda. Veneman finished in the top five.
