After two consecutive podiums, Pedro Acosta will compete in the MotoGP Spanish Grand Prix this weekend. Although it is the first time he faces the circuit in the premier class, he already knows it well from other championships, but still remains cautious.
The Red Bull GasGas Tech3 Spanish rider stated in a press conference: ‘It is certain that it will be good to compete for the first time in Jerez with all the fans. It is true that it is like Mugello for the Italians, this is the biggest party of the season for us. So, it will be very enjoyable. It is true that last year Brad [Binder] and Jack [Miller] were very fast, also Dani [Pedrosa] with the wildcard. And they did some tests here as well with Pol [Espargaró] to improve our bike’.
Despite the confidence in the bike’s performance, Acosta emphasized that he still needs to assess his competitiveness at another circuit that is new to him in MotoGP:
– It is true that sometimes you feel stronger in these moments, when you see that the bike is working well. But I need to see how I will work. In the end, we have several question marks. It is true that in America the weekend was good for us overall, but we really don’t know how I will ride here in Jerez. So, we need to stay calm.
And the rookie admitted that he counts on another rival in the fight this weekend – Pedrosa: ‘We need to think that we will have a wildcard and his name is Dani Pedrosa, and he will be more of an opponent, rather than a help. But anyway, it is quite good to ride with him as well’.
