It was in 2018 that Dani Pedrosa put an end to his adventure in MotoGP. In a documentary series titled “Test Rider,” which recalls the trajectory of the Spanish rider, he reveals the reasons that led him to leave the premier category of speed.
‘I was very tired of the pressure, the competition, the press, of having to justify this and that every day… I was also tired of the travels, of going to every race without stopping, of the physical training I had to do to prepare myself, of the hospitals, of the injuries…’, declared Dani, quoted by Mundo Deportivo.
Currently, Pedrosa assumes the role of test rider for KTM and commentator for Spanish DAZN.
‘All this takes a back seat. The risk is always around the corner, but let’s say you don’t have as much demand. In a test, you do many laps on the bike, but it’s much less often during a month or year. Besides, there are fewer travels, no press, you don’t have to attend events’, he added.
The Spanish rider, who debuted in 2001 in the former 125cc, moved up to the premier class in 2006 and always defended the same team, Honda. Although he never became MotoGP world champion, the “Little Samurai” has a career full of successes, including the world title in the 125cc category in 2003 and the 250cc championship in 2004 and 2005.
Pedrosa achieved 54 victories (31 of them in MotoGP) and is among the greatest winners in the history of the premier class World Championship.
