What a finish to the Moto3 race at Le Mans, a complete picture of what the class is all about and where uncertainty reigned supreme! Jose Antonio Rueda won once again, taking the lead in the last corner of the race after a hot and physical fight between Joel Kelso and David Muñoz, which earned the Spaniard a penalty and the loss of second place.

A weekend of racing, with Moto3 opening the day on Sunday and conditions already dry after the track was completely wet this morning.

For this race, Máximo Quiles started from pole position, with Guido Pini in second and Joel Kelso in third on the front row.

Quiles made a great start and led in the first few corners of the race, but in the end he couldn’t resist Kelso’s pressure during the first lap and slipped to second, ahead of Ángel Piqueras. David Muñoz was fourth and Pini fifth.

Ryusei Yamanaka was the first casualty of the race when he crashed at turn 6 after contact with Vicente Pérez, with the incident being investigated but later announced to be without action, being considered a racing incident and nothing more.

Piqueras meanwhile took second place in the race, Muñoz moved up to third, Pini was fourth and Taiyo Furusato was already fifth, ahead of Jose Antonio Rueda, when three laps were completed.

A couple of laps later Muñoz was already in second position and shortly afterwards Pini even beat the #64 to take second place in the race. Rueda was already fourth, ahead of Piqueras.

Pini even briefly moved into the lead of the race, but Kelso responded and retook the lead, and Rueda continued to grow, already in third position.

The difficulties of Le Mans were evident and Eddie O’Shea also went down, and shortly afterwards Stefano Nepa headed to the team garage and ended his race. Adrián Cruces also went down, as did Piqueras, who was one of the highlights of the race.

Halfway through the race, Kelso was the leader, with Muñoz second and Rueda third.

After battling at the front of the race, Pini was unlucky to crash at turn 8 during the 14th lap, when he was fourth and well placed to dream of victory!

Rueda, in third, was showing a stronger pace than the front duo and at any moment he could make his move!

Only 0.2s separated the leading trio with three laps to go!

Rueda did indeed move into second place, but Munõz responded almost immediately and retook the position that had been “his” for much of the time. Kelso, meanwhile, remained in front and benefited from the battle between the #64 and the #99.

The rivals exchanged positions again, but everything was back to the normal formula. Everything was postponed until the last sector of the last lap!

Unbelievable and completely the image of what Moto3 is: Kelso went slightly wide two corners from the end, Muñoz was highly aggressive and hit the Australian, with both having a touch and thus going wide and such action “opened up” space for the coolness of Rueda, who finished and took the victory!

Muñoz finished second but was penalized and lost a place, with Kelso taking second place.
