Liam Everts left Afyonkarahisar as the winner of the MXGP of Turkey in the MX2 motocross World Championship. Although he didn’t win any of the two races, the Belgian was the most consistent.
The holeshot in the first race was taken by Simon Längenfelder (Red Bull GasGas), but by the end of the first lap it was Isak Gifting (VHR Racing Team/GasGas) leading. The Swede was in the lead for most of the race, until he was overtaken by Längenfelder on the tenth lap. From then on, the German never lost the lead, finishing ahead of Jago Geerts (Monster Energy Yamaha) by 3.146s. Everts (Red Bull KTM) finished third, followed by Roan van de Mosdijk (Nestaan Husqvarna) and Gifting – who lost momentum towards the end.
Van de Moosdijk had a better start in the second race and led in the early laps, until he lost positions to Everts and Kevin Horgmo (F&H Kawasaki) in quick succession on the fourth lap. Everts then took the lead, but couldn’t shake off the pursuit from Horgmo. The Norwegian managed to overtake on the 13th lap, finishing 2.636s ahead of Everts. Van de Moosdijk finished third, holding off Geerts behind him, while Andrea Adamo (Red Bull KTM) crossed the line in fifth.
In the final standings of the MXGP of Turkey, Everts was the winner with 42 points, compared to the 40 points accumulated by Horgmo and Geerts. Despite finishing sixth 15 points behind the winner, Adamo maintains the championship lead:
