ENGINE AND NUMBERS
With a more linear power delivery and a smooth clutch, the engine reveals a more efficient response, providing an even more enjoyable driving experience. At high speeds, the response of the 700MT is quite positive and better than I personally expected, considering the 66 hp of power (11 more than the 650) delivered by the bicylinder. On the other hand, at lower revs, it was necessary to shift gears earlier than expected, since the torque at lower revs is not exactly the strong point of this engine.
With 60 Nm of torque, this engine, which already complies with the new Euro 5+ limits, offered fun, especially in medium revs. In terms of fuel consumption, this engine did not seem to be the most economical in the segment, however, the 18-liter fuel tank capacity allows us to make long journeys without major concerns in that area.
COMFORTABLE HANDLING
The handling proved to be quite capable, with the inverted and adjustable front suspension from Kayaba, together with the rear mono-shock, adjustable in pre-load and hydraulic extension, filtering the imperfections of the asphalt well, being quite comfortable in urban environments. In light off-road adventures, the suspension also does a good job, however, when attacking curves more dedicatedly, we realize that it is not in its natural habitat, leading to greater oscillations of the set and some sinking of the front suspension.
The braking was handled by J.Juan, and it proved to be at the level of the model’s performance. The dual discs at the front, together with the rear disc, give us the necessary confidence, with the only detail to point out being the activation of the ABS, which I would like to be slightly less intrusive.
The riding position is quite relaxed, ergonomic, and the comfortable seat helps us cover many kilometers at the controls of the 700MT without much fatigue. Even with its 220 Kg, the model proved to be quite agile and, despite its dimensions, is a good companion for maneuvering through traffic. However, there are some vibrations coming from the engine, which sometimes make the ride a bit uncomfortable, and should be one of the aspects to improve by CFMOTO in the future.
ELECTRONICS AND FINAL SUMMARY
The 5-inch TFT instrument panel is well organized, provides various information, and navigating through the menus is a fairly intuitive task. It also has connectivity to our smartphone, and offers a wide range of settings, enhancing the model’s quality level. Next to the panel, we find USB type A and type C sockets, ideal for charging our devices on longer trips.
In terms of driving aids, the implementation of traction control in a future update would be a valuable addition, since the 700MT will be used for daily driving, and inevitably in adverse weather conditions.
THE BEST Price / Instrument panel / Versatility
TO IMPROVE Vibrations / Front fork / Lack of traction control
In summary, the CFMOTO 700MT demonstrates a significant evolution compared to the previous model, surpassing it in several aspects. This confirms the ability of Chinese manufacturers to adapt to market needs and listen to customer requests.
With prices starting at €6,790 (without ISV or IUC), the 700MT is undoubtedly an excellent proposal considering the quality/price ratio.
