In the sunny beaches of El Nido city, in Palawan, at the southern tip of Luzon island, in the Philippines, a new motorcycle ready to shake up the entry-level adventure motorcycle segment was introduced to the world: the CFMOTO 450 MT.
Until recently, entry-level adventure motorcycles were equipped only with the essentials, sometimes with features that were not very demanding in terms of off-road capabilities. CFMOTO is determined to change this situation with the 450MT, as it comes standard with features that are typically found in motorcycles that cost twice as much.
The specifications follow the formula of other off-road-oriented ADV bikes in the market, with the motorcycle having a 21-inch front wheel and an 18-inch rear wheel. It is also clear that CFMOTO wanted the motorcycle to be above its price range, by fitting spoked wheels (think BMW GS or Aprilia Tuareg 660). It also has adjustable 41mm KYB front suspension and a link-equipped rear monoshock.
In terms of performance, the 450 MT stands out from other motorcycles in the 400 to 500 class due to its engine. Equipped with the same 449cc liquid-cooled fuel-injected twin-cylinder engine as the 450NK and 450SS.
However, in the 450 MT, it is tuned to deliver 44 horsepower and 44 Nm of torque – more than enough for good off-road performance and suitable for maintaining a fast pace on open roads.
When turning the key, you are greeted with a sleek animation on the color TFT screen. Everything on this bike seems well put together, and it is evident that CFMOTO has taken build quality much more seriously. And with a push of the starter motor, the twin-cylinder has a surprisingly high exhaust note for a stock bike compliant with the latest emissions standards.
On the road, the 450 is a friendly travel companion. It has a fairly high center of gravity due to its 21-inch front wheel and tall stance, but it is manageable, compliant, and even engaging at moderate speeds. Navigating twisty roads and city traffic, the MT is agile and light, easily leaning into curves. Meanwhile, the low seat height allows for confident footing in stop-and-go traffic.
The new CFMOTO 450MT is expected to arrive in Europe this year. We will stay tuned for all the updates.
