In recent days, rumors have emerged in the Spanish press about a possible acquisition of Dorna – the promoter of MotoGP and the World Superbike Championship – by Liberty Media. If this deal materializes, Formula 1 and MotoGP would have the same owner for the first time in history.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna, has already reacted, quoted by the website Motosan.es at an RFME event: ‘The majority shareholders of Dorna are investment funds that buy things to sell them, and we have always been for sale – from day one. That’s what it is right now. Today we are the same as we have always been,’ he said.
In addition to the possible sale, MotoGP is going through decisive moments for the future. Currently, technical and sporting regulations for 2027 are being discussed, which are close to being defined – with a meeting between Dorna and the manufacturers’ association (MSMA) planned on the sidelines of the Qatar GP.
