Can Oncu finished the FP1 of the World Supersport Championship in Assen as the fastest man on track, in a session that was severely affected by the rain at the Dutch circuit.
Can Oncu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing) topped a wet FP at the TT Circuit Assen, taking advantage of the best track conditions to be 1.4 seconds faster than the competition. With heavy rain falling in the early stages, and intensifying halfway through the session, laps were limited in what became a quiet opening to the SSP action.
In the first ten minutes, only a few laps were completed, with most riders staying in their team boxes. One of the few on track was C. Oncu (Kawasaki Puccetti Racing), with a lap of 1:44.919s, ahead of Niki Tuuli (EAB Racing Team) and Ondrej Vostatek (PTR Triumph), with 2.6 seconds separating the top three, after the trio went out early in the FP session.
The rain did not stop and worsened, with riders taking the risk to go out on track with 18 minutes remaining, making every lap crucial to determine who would come out on top and claim pole position for Saturday’s Race 1.
