After acquiring 86% of Dorna, Liberty Media Corporation – known for owning Formula 1 – the leader of the International Motorcycling Federation, Jorge Viegas, argued that the new MotoGP owner could bring in more fans and become an asset to motorsport.
In statements to Jornal Económico, the Portuguese stated:
-‘Expanding the scope of this sport to parts of society that are not necessarily fans can bring a very important asset to MotoGP’
With Liberty Media Corporation in charge of MotoGP, it is expected that the biggest two-wheeled sport in the world will start to follow the example set by F1 and that both disciplines will continue to grow. Despite being linked by the same owner, Jorge Viegas says that there will be no influence on MotoGP events, stating that two wheels are still much more attractive than F1.
– ‘The MotoGP product is much more attractive than Formula 1 in terms of sports.’
