Can-Am is returning to its roots in motorcycles, and its two models have been honored with the Red Dot Design Award – adding to the iF Design Award.

The Origin ’73 and the Pulse ’73 were distinguished in these prestigious industry and design awards, which will be formally presented on July 8.

They are two models that share a base but are very different: the Origin is a dual-sport particularly geared towards off-road, whereas the Pulse is a naked bike well suited to roads and daily mobility. They share the liquid-cooled Rotax E-Power engine delivering 47 hp/35 kW of maximum power (27 hp of continuous power) and 72 Nm of torque.

In the case of the Origin ’73, the suspension consists of a 43-millimeter inverted KYB front fork and an adjustable KYB rear shock (preload, compression, and rebound).

Meanwhile, the Pulse ’73 is equipped with a 41-mm inverted KYB front fork and a Sachs rear shock adjustable in preload.

The brakes are identical on both models: a 320-mm disc with a floating two-piston J.Juan caliper at the front and a 240-mm disc with a floating single-piston J.Juan caliper at the rear.

The tyres are also different: Dunlop D605 on the Origin ’73 and Dunlop Sportmax on the Pulse ’73. The Origin ’73 has a slightly longer wheelbase (1,503 mm) than the Pulse ’73 (1,412 mm), as well as greater ground clearance (276 mm / 146 mm). The Origin ’73 is also heavier (187 kg / 177 kg).

Another common feature is the instrument panel: a 10.25-inch digital touchscreen with BRP Connect, allowing mobile device connectivity.
