Toprak Razgatlioglu secured his first victory of the season in the Superbike World Championship this Saturday, in the first race in Portimão… in a thrilling finish right to the last meters.

This morning, the Turkish rider from ROKiT BMW had already signaled that he was the man to beat, setting a new lap record to claim pole position. However, he didn’t have the best start in the race and dropped to fifth, allowing Nicolò Bulega (Aruba.it Ducati) to take the lead.

The first lap saw two «casualties»: Álvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati) and Scott Redding (MGM Bonovo Racing/Ducati), who crashed at Turn 4. Bulega held onto the lead with a slight advantage over Razgatlioglu until he was overtaken on lap seven.

The battle continued, and seven laps later, Bulega reclaimed the lead. The Turkish rider didn’t give up and was back in front by lap 17 of 20.

Back in second place, Bulega kept the pressure on until the very end and came close to snatching victory, but Razgatlioglu held on to win by just 67 milliseconds.

Andrea Locatelli finished third. The Pata Maxus Yamaha rider lacked the pace to keep up with the leading duo and spent several laps battling with Danilo Petrucci (Barni Spark Racing Team/Ducati), who finished fourth.

The top five was completed by Xavi Vierge (Honda HRC) ahead of Michael van der Mark (ROKiT BMW), while the bimota by KRT had Axel Bassani as the only rider to cross the finish line, taking ninth place.
