Brixton is a motorcycle manufacturer you may never have heard of, but which is causing quite a stir on the European and Asian markets. The brand is based in Austria, but exports its production to China, which allows it to keep prices very low. As well as having a British-sounding name, its flagship model is also “inspired” by one of the most iconic British motorcycles of all time: the Triumph Bonneville.

In fact, we’ve talked about this bike before and, when placed side by side with the Bonneville, Brixton’s Cromwell 1200 looks like a photocopy of the classic roadster. It’s a bold move, which makes it clear that the bike was designed and manufactured in the East. However, Brixton is now trying to differentiate itself, as it has just launched the Cromwell 1200 X for the year 2024. The standard Cromwell 1200 is, to all intents and purposes, a “clone” of the Triumph Bonneville. However, the Cromwell 1200 X is distinguished by longer suspension, sturdy tires and a more upright seating position.

The Cromwell 1200 X’s scrambler-style aesthetics make it clear that the bike is still essentially a road bike, but better equipped to handle light off-roading, such as the occasional gravel road. It’s by no means as capable as Triumph’s Scrambler 1200, so at least we can’t say it’s an imitation of that bike. Its scrambler look is further accentuated by a small windshield above the headlight, as well as fork guards that add a bit of volume to the front.

In terms of performance, the Cromwell 1200 has a liquid-cooled, fuel-injected 1,222 cc twin-cylinder engine. It has a maximum power of 83 hp at 6,550 rpm and 108 Nm of torque at 3,100 rpm, which means it has plenty of power at low revs. Power is also sent to the rear wheel via a chain-driven six-speed manual transmission. Suspension duties are handled by KYB equipment, consisting of a standard telescopic unit at the front and twin shock absorbers at the rear. For braking, the bike has dual 310-millimeter brakes at the front and a single 260-millimeter disc brake at the rear.

In terms of price and availability, Brixton is offering the new Cromwell 1200 X on the Italian market in just one cream color. Once available, it will have a suggested selling price of €11,749.
