The Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup continued last weekend in Le Mans, on the sidelines of the French GP. Brian Uriarte and Máximo Quiles were the winners of the races, which were exciting and marked by uncertainty until the last meters.
In the first race, Quiles came out on top, but despite starting from pole position, he only managed to take the lead definitively on the last lap. The Spaniard led for a long time, always with his opponents close by, until he was overtaken by Salmela on the ninth lap.
Quiles then moved to the position of pursuer and was even in third behind Uriarte before starting the recovery on the 13th lap. The decisive overtake happened on the last lap, leaving Salmela unable to counterattack. He won by 0.260s. Uriarte made a mistake that dropped him to fifth place, with Álvaro Carpe closing the podium. Valentin Perrone finished fourth.
Once again starting from pole position, Quiles couldn’t maintain the lead at the start of the second race, and after one lap it was Perrone at the top. The margins at the top were small, with an extensive group of riders fighting for victory with legitimate ambitions to achieve it until the end.
And once again, the decisions were saved for the last lap, with a fierce overtake by Uriarte in the penultimate corner to beat Quiles by just 0.048s. Hakim Danish was the third-place finisher, ahead of Perrone and Carpe. This time, Salmela was only 20th.
After two rounds, Quiles leads the championship with 74 points, but 19 more than Carpe who is in second place. Uriarte is third, 22 points behind the leader. The Rookies Cup continues now in Mugello next month of June.
