The BMW GS is undeniably the adventure motorcycle of the decade, if not the last two, solidifying its status as one of the most desired bikes currently in the market. And when BMW revealed the new R 1300 GS, it was met with positive feedback, with enthusiasts citing its improved performance, updated technology, and lighter construction compared to its predecessor.
Right away, the R 1300 GS is a completely capable machine. And a selection of upgrades can slightly enhance its performance from the aftermarket market, as most GS owners do. But what about a completely custom build?
Adventure bikes are not exactly common choices for customizations, but VTR Motorrad, a Swiss workshop specializing in all things BMW, disagrees with that. The R 1301 is a custom adventure bike like no other.
The R 1301 is allegedly the first ever custom build based on the new adventure bike, and it is nothing short of a fascinating machine. It captures the essence of various motorcycling disciplines, with its radical fairing and athletic stance giving off supermoto vibes, and its lightweight look transforming it into a naked streetfighter.
However, underneath all this, the R 1301 remains an ADV, as it still retains its 19-inch front wheel. At the front, it also keeps the smoked windscreen, while the hand guards and rearview mirrors have been removed for a more sporty and road-focused look. The front fender has also been trimmed to give it a more sporty appearance. At the back, the R 1301 features a custom rear section, reminiscent of a sportbike or naked bike.
The R 1301 has forged aluminum wheels with Metzeler M9 RR tires – suggesting that this custom bike was not just designed to look fantastic. An Akrapovic exhaust also joins the party, and to top it off, the customized R 1301 is adorned with BMW’s M colors, with a custom seat inspired by supermoto, created by Swiss specialist Yves Knobel.
Such extensive customization work does not come cheap, and the R 1301 is said to have cost 15,000 Swiss francs, which is approximately €15,617.46.
