As a test rider for Red Bull KTM, Dani Pedrosa had the opportunity to compete in two wildcards in the 2023 MotoGP season – in the Spanish GP and the San Marino GP.
Despite being absent from regular competition since 2018 and not having raced since 2021, the Spanish rider showed good aptitude – especially in Misano, where he finished fourth near the podium in both the Sprint race and the main race.
While acknowledging that wildcards are primarily for testing, Pedrosa did not hide in a DAZN documentary that he would have liked to taste the podium that he was close to: ‘Wildcards are not personal selections, we must have important reasons to come and test. I got two fourth places, I can’t ask for more, but being so close to the podium, I would have liked to be able to feel it again‘.
