The MotoGP tests in Qatar did not go well for Honda, and after Joan Mir did not feel well on the second day, apparently the same happened with Luca Marini on the first day, which ended up making things more difficult for both riders and the manufacturer. Alberto Puig went even further, saying that the current package is not ready for the team duo.
The Team Manager of Repsol Honda Team spoke about the test on the championship’s official website: ‘Unfortunately, our two riders were sick. On Monday, Luca [Marini] had a stomach virus, and on Tuesday, it was Joan [Mir]. He didn’t spend much time on the track, so we couldn’t do as many tests.’
But the problems didn’t stop there, as Puig also revealed that the RC213V package is still not at the desired point, also due to the lack of tests carried out by the riders, acknowledging the need to improve to be at a more competitive level:
‘The package is not ready for them. Not because they couldn’t ride on Tuesday, but because we are still looking for the best configuration, the best compromise for the Grand Prix. We know where we have improved and where we still need to improve. We are trying to accelerate as much as possible with the things we need to improve in order to receive them before the start of the championship.’
