In his second year in MotoGP, Augusto Fernández did not achieve the most competitive time in the Sepang tests, finishing 21st. Still, the Spanish rider believes in his potential, despite being aware of his biggest flaw at the moment.
With a time of 1:58.740s as the best he managed on the third day in Sepang, 2.058s off the fastest time set by Pecco Bagnaia. Still, he noticed improvements and had the “help” of Pedro Acosta to achieve it: ‘The work was better. We may not have found the key or I may not have felt completely comfortable, but there was work to be done. I managed to follow Pedro, who was doing a very good sprint in 58 and I managed to do a 58 behind him and then I went to 59. In Qatar, we have a good base, so I could start with that base and build from there. The team is happy, of course’.
In the opinion of the Red Bull GASGAS Tech3 rider, it is important to follow his instincts, which he admitted where he is failing the most: ‘I have the experience of one year, but I think I can trust it and I know I am fast. I want to trust my feelings a little more, they also want to start again with the bike we finished here. When you lose so much confidence, it is difficult for me, at this moment, to brake later. Let’s see if we can get on the right track on the first day, because there is not much time’.
The next tests will take place on the 19th and 20th in Qatar.
