The 2024 season will be Augusto Fernández’s second in MotoGP. With more experience comes more responsibility, as the Red Bull GasGas Tech3 rider will be more involved in the development of the KTM RC16.
When asked if he will have a more relevant role in the development of the bike, the Spanish rider confirmed that it will be the case: ‘Yes, but I am very happy about it because maybe in the final part of the [2023] season I was missing the latest components of the bike because I was a rookie. Maybe they were better or worse, but I wasn’t receiving them for better or worse. I am happy to take this next step because I hope to receive the good things and the bad things, but I am happy to experience, test, and also develop the bike because now I believe that, race by race, I am understanding how MotoGP works and I can help to have a better bike’.
Fernández emphasized that he is confident in the bike he will test next week in Sepang: ‘I also have a lot of confidence in what we will see in Malaysia – the new bike. I can’t wait to try the carbon frame and the bike they finished with. I need to try this bike first and then the new things. But I am happy to take this next step with the Pierer Mobility group’.
