What an intense qualifying session in Misano for the Emilia Romagna GP, with the lap record falling four times, but with Arón Canet securing pole position, right at the end by just 0.004s.

After Zonta VD Goorbergh, Dennis Foggia, Senna Agius and Alonso López had been the fastest in Q1 and thus guaranteed passage to Q2, the question was in the air: who would be the fastest and would secure pole position for the Emilia Romagna GP?

And the session started in style with the track record being broken by Tony Arbolino, right on the first fast lap, in 1:35.111s. Arón Canet and Filip Salac were also among the most competitive, for now, as was Goorbergh. The Italian improved his own record shortly afterwards and entered the second 34, in 1:34.945s.

The session quickly moved to the final phase, with the riders going to the team garages. Arbolino was the leader, Canet second and Jake Dixon third, for now.

With two and a half minutes to go in the session, Somkiat Chantra crashed, apparently without gravity, at turn 9.

Celestino Vietti meanwhile showed up and reached the second best time, 0.027s behind Arbolino but the highlight was Joe Roberts, shortly after he reached first and provisional pole with a lap in 1:34.939s and if that was already surprising the truth is that someone did even better: Canet lowered the opponent’s time by 0.004s and thus guaranteed the pole position for the Emilia Romagna GP!
