Arón Canet secured his first pole position of the Moto2 season this Saturday at the British GP – after leading much of the second phase of qualifying at Silverstone.

In Q1, David Alonso (CFMOTO Gaviota Aspar/Kalex) led about half of the session thanks to his first flying lap. But everything changed with improvements in the final two minutes, and Canet (Fantic Racing Lino Sonego/Kalex) ended up climbing to the top.

The Spaniard held onto the position and secured advancement to Q2, as did Alonso who was second at 0.197s, Marcos Ramírez (OnlyFans American Racing Team/Kalex) in third, and Alonso López (Beta Tools SpeedRS Team/Boscoscuro) in fourth. Celestino Vietti was fifth, just 88 thousandths behind his teammate, thus missing his goal.

Q2 began with several riders losing their flying laps due to track limits infringements. In fact, only Canet and Ramírez had valid times. Once all riders had recorded laps, Canet was ahead of Senna Agius (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP/Kalex) by 0.392s.

In the final laps, the times improved considerably, but Canet managed to be the strongest again: he clocked a 2m02.482s lap to claim pole position, beating Manuel González (Liqui Moly Dynavolt Intact GP/Kalex) by 0.148s. Moreira took third at 0.335s, and Alonso achieved his best Moto2 qualifying so far with fourth place.
